Alternative Dispute Resolution (top)

American Bar Association: Section of Dispute Resolution. This site offers a superb starting point for ADR research. It features a collection of articles, links to other ADR entities, a list of projects and activities of various ABA Sections and entities relating to ADR, upcoming events relating to dispute resolution and membership information for this ABA Section. http://www.abanet.org/dispute/

RAND. A nonprofit research institution founded to improve policy and decision making, RAND hosts a site that proves particularly useful to researching all aspects of ADR. You can orchestrate a search by scanning to the bottom of the RAND home page and selecting a keyword search. Search "arbitration," "mediation" and "alternative dispute resolution" for a wealth of research articles and materials on these subjects. http://www.rand.org/

American Arbitration Association. A not-for-profit public service organization, the American Arbitration Association provides a comprehensive site for up to date information regarding mediation, arbitration and other forms of alternative dispute resolution. The site features sections covering new rules and brochures, press releases, state statutes and federal law regarding alternative dispute resolution and the AAA National Roster of Neutrals, arbiters who meet AAA qualifying criteria. http://www.adr.org/

CPR Institute for Dispute Resolution. A nonprofit alliance of international corporations, law firms and professors, the CPR Institute provides information on membership, neutral arbiters and the CPR agenda and publications. The site includes an extensive glossary of alternative dispute resolution terms for those just beginning to research these issues and a short list of links to recent news articles addressing ADR. http://www.cpradr.org/

The Program on Negotiation at Harvard Law School. The home page is a reflection of a consortium of Harvard, MIT and Tufts University committed to enhancing the theory and practice of negotiation and dispute resolution. American Bar Association: Section of Antitrust Law. This ABA Section offers the leading forum for ongoing analysis of policies and developments affecting competition and consumer protection law. Department of Justice: Antitrust Division. Frequently updated, this informative site features an overview of the DOJ's Antitrust Division, Division press releases, records of related speeches, Congressional testimony and Division commentaries, general antitrust guidelines produced by the Division, archives featuring recent antitrust cases, appellate briefs, business review letters and bank merger transactions, international agreements and documents, Division status reports tracking the success of the Division in antitrust enforcement, a Division telephone directory and links to other antitrust sites worldwide. http://www.usdoj.gov/atr/

Antitrust Policy. This site effectively links four types of information: antitrust case documents, enforcement guidelines and speeches, economic bibliographies and current antitrust issues in the news. Federal Trade Commission: Antitrust. The site profiles the FTC's antitrust division, the Bureau of Competition, which seeks to prevent business practices that restrain competition. The site features antitrust news releases, Bureau guidelines, advisory opinions, the Hart-Scott-Rodino Act governing pre-merger procedures and FTC antitrust actions and speeches. Antitrust Case Summary Browser. This site provides a collection of key U. S. Supreme Court case summaries covering a wide variety of antitrust violations. American Bankruptcy Institute.
One of the largest multi-disciplinary, non-partisan organizations dedicated to insolvency research and education, ABI was founded in 1982 with a mission to provide Congress and the public at large with an unbiased analysis of bankruptcy issues. It boasts a membership of more that 5,800 attorneys, bankers, judges, professors, turnaround specialists, accountants and other bankruptcy professionals. The Bankruptcy Lawfinder. This site includes the complete text of bankruptcy related statutes including the U.S. Bankruptcy Code, Title 11 in HTML format, Bankruptcy Reform Act of 1994, Bankruptcy Code and Rules @ House of Representatives, Code of Federal Regulations in searchable format and Articles 1-9 of the U.C.C., in addition to case law covering the Supreme Court, Circuit and U.S. Bankruptcy Court decisions. InterNet Bankruptcy Library. This site is maintained by the Bankruptcy Creditors' Service, Inc. and the Beard Group, Inc., and furnishes current information on corporate reorganizations searchable by company name, headline news searchable by date and selected Chapter 11 bankruptcy petitions. Law Journal Extra! This site has a lengthy list of links to recent articles of particular interest to bankruptcy professionals. World Internet Insolvency & Bankruptcy Resources. California State Government (top)

Official California Legislative Information. Maintained by the Legislative Counsel of California, this is the official site for California legislative information. Features include a section of today's events, bill information, legislative publications and California Law. Particularly useful, the California Law section is a searchable database of the California State Constitution, state statutes and 29 California codes covering various subject areas. California Courts (Hosted by the Judicial Council of California). This site provides access to California court web sites including the Supreme Court, Courts of Appeal and trial courts. Other features include current news articles and releases regarding the Judicial Council or California courts, court opinions, minutes and calendars and an online reference shelf. http://www.courtinfo.ca.gov/

Legislative Analyst's Office. A nonpartisan office providing fiscal and policy analysis to the California Legislature, the LAO hosts an informative site on their activities to date including news reports, LAO analyses of measures on the upcoming ballot and an analysis of the current budget bill. Links to the California State Assembly and State Senate are also provided. http://www.lao.ca.gov/

California Law Revision Commission. Created in 1953 as the permanent successor to the Code Commission, the Commission is charged with the responsibility for the continuing substantive review of California statutory and decisional law. Studying the law in an effort to discover defects and anachronisms, the Commission recommends legislation to procure reforms. In addition to general information regarding the Commission, the site details the Commission's current agenda, recent meeting minutes, current Commission bills, legislative action on past Commission bills and downloadable Commission recommendations. http://www.clrc.ca.gov/

California State Government Home Page. A general site for use by the public at large to obtain information on a wide variety of topics including history and culture, travel, conducting business, employment, natural resources, environmental protection, emergency relief and basic government information. WATCH. Writers, Artists and Their Copyright Holders (WATCH) is an online database supported by the University of Texas that matches many authors with their copyright holders. Copyright Clearance Center (CCC). The CCC offers general reproduction rights to universities, educational institutions, companies and other organizations desiring to utilize a copyrighted work. A non-profit organization, the CCC assesses the copyright royalty and forwards it to the publisher. BMI. The BMI web site offers information and resources to license the copyrighted musical works of over 200,000 songwriters and singers. Downloadable forms are provided by the company to expedite the licensing process. Specific data includes the use of songs for TV, radio and the Internet. http://bmi.com/

American Society of Composers, Authors, and Publishers (ASCAP). ASCAP provides licensing information and resources for Internet, radio, TV and film use of member works. With over 75,000 members, ASCAP's musical resources are extensive. LII's Eye on the Courts: Newsworthy Decisions Available on the Net. Hosted by the Legal Information Institute of Cornell Law School, this site is useful tool for keeping abreast of key appellate decisions in the news. Litigator's Internet Resource Guide: Rules of Court. A key site for links to federal, state and local court rules. Also useful are links to current legal articles and a library where such articles and other information are archived monthly but remain fully searchable. http://www.llrx.com/library/

Employee Benefits (top)

Pension Benefit Guaranty Corporation (PBGC). The PBGC's web site provides general information about pension plans, a list of supported plans, information on how to enroll corporations with PBGC insurance and a pension search feature. Users may access the pension search to verify if they owed a pension. Companies unable to locate pensioners may input the names of the lost recipients to increase the size of the database. http://www.pbgc.gov/

BenefitsLink. This free web site provides information for both employers and employees regarding pension and retirement plans. It includes official government documents and regulations, links to various service providers, an extensive Frequently Asked Questions section and a news section for recent benefits occurrences. Employee Benefit Research Institute (EBRI). EBRI sponsors a web site to provide analysis and information to public policy makers and employers for the creation of sound employee benefit programs. The site offers educational program information, policy documents, links to relevant sites, a library of publications, poll data and updates of emergent news. http://www.ebri.org/

Employee Benefit News Online. For individuals desiring in depth information about breaking issues in employee benefits, this subscription based newsletter is excellent. Free information available includes a glossary of terms, a list of headlines, a list of service providers, management tips and links. International Foundation of Employee Benefit Plans (IFEBP). IFEBP, a non-profit educational foundation, maintains a web site that provides certification information and data concerning seminars and conferences, describes different publications available with membership, describes the document retrieval service and describes the mission and focus of the IFEBP. U.S. Department of Labor. The Department of Labor offers information on labor regulations and laws, labor data, links to occupational resources and data concerning grants and contracts. Social Security Administration (SSA). The SSA web site offers basic primers on the history and services of the administration, filing and other tips for businesses and individuals, full text law and regulation documents, various research and statistical documents and location addresses to local offices. http://www.ssa.gov/

National Labor Relations Board (NLRB). This web site details the history and purpose of the NLRB. It provides manuals, regulations, laws, notices and helpful research oriented data. The site also maintains valuable data on the process of resolving claims and the resources available to claimants. http://www.nlrb.gov/

California State: Division of Labor Standards Enforcement. This site provides listings of certified and licensed garment manufacturers, farm labor contractors, talent agencies, industrial homeworkers and other employers. Bureau of Labor Statistics. The Bureau of Labor Statistics (BLS) provides extensive information on U.S. job productivity, wage standards, industry growth rates and other labor related data. Some information is free while other data requires purchase. http://stats.bls.gov/

Equal Employment Opportunity Commission. The EEOC's web site provides basic data regarding employment discrimination, details the process of filing a charge, provides resources to small businesses, presents the complete text of laws related to the Commission's work and details the Commission's options upon receiving a charge. Legal Information Institute. Hosted by Cornell Law School, this site offers an extensive collection of legal materials, including hypertext versions of the full U.S. Code, Constitution and Federal Rules of Evidence and Civil Procedure. Federal Register. U.S. House of Representatives Internet Law Library. Government Information Locator Service, GILS. A database currently being developed, GILS keeps a record of all public government information, including data still unavailable via the Internet. FedLaw. This site is an excellent starting point for federal legal research. An alphabetical index of subjects allows easy access to a specific subject or law, with 61 different subject categories under "Federal Laws and Regulations" alone. Claiming to host the most comprehensive set of links to international legal resources on the web, this site features a categorized index of 3,100 web sites from 238 nations, islands and territories, as well as over 850 locally stored web pages. Legal Information Institute. Hosted by Cornell Law School, this site offers for public use an extensive collection of legal materials, including hypertext versions of the full U.S. Code, Constitution, Federal Rules of Evidence and Civil Procedure. International and state regulations and statutes are also available. Case law available includes a collection of recent and historic Supreme Court decisions and recent opinions of the New York Court of Appeals. An e-mail address directory of faculty and staff at U.S. law schools and contact information on other legal organizations is provided. One of the most comprehensive and user friendly of the legal resource sites, this web site provides the user access to a wide variety of legal issues and research resources from directories to domestic and international legal resources to news and reference materials. A one stop site for most of your legal research. Law Journal Extra! Updated daily, this site offers headlines and links to law-related articles of interest in the news. Click on "Practice Areas" to choose an area of law and receive links to a list of recent news articles relating to that subject. http://www.ljx.com/

Real Estate (top)

TenantNet. A comprehensive source of tenant's rights and rental legal issues, TenantNet offers information for tenants in over 25 states. Media articles from different cities and states are archived and statewide and local legal documents are available for review. This site is an excellent stop for an individual having problems with a landlord, or for landlords attempting to avoid problems with tenants. http://tenant.net/

MoveQuest. The only Internet location a prospective home buyer absolutely needs to visit is this web site. A visitor to the site immediately inputs the location of the desired new home. This location can be as detailed as the address of a house or condominium or as general as a city or zip code. MoveQuest, a nationwide service, then provides comparison prices showing recent sales in the area on a map, offering driving directions to each location. It gives local information about financing options, provides a service to become pre-approved online, helps calculate moving costs according to published rates, describes how to choose a real estate agent, describes insurance options, offers descriptions of local schools and businesses and even provides local coupons. http://www.movequest.com/

FindLaw: Legal Subjects: Property Law. FindLaw offers an extensive directory of links and site descriptions related to requested legal subjects. RTK NET. The Right to Know Network, or RTK NET, is a non-profit organization offering extensive database resources concerning land use and real estate concerns.
